Janice Monty MBA Chief Executive

Janice has an extensive background and a wealth of valuable and relevant expertise in youth work and child services, most recently as Contracts and Commissioning Manager in the Children and Young Person's Department at Wirral Council.

Having begun her career as a Youth Worker, she had gone on to hold a number of important roles with Barnardos and the YMCA and has strong operational experience in other charities and public bodies.

She holds a Masters (MBA) in Public Sector Management as well as Diplomas in Inclusive Management and Advanced Studies in Education and Youth/Community. Her experience puts her in an ideal position to set a clear strategy for the organisation and take SYC forward as an innovative charity in the field of youth engagement.

Darren Sharrock Tutor

Darren is an experienced tutor and youth worker who has provided support and guidance to the students and youth club members for the past 10 years. Previously a Princes Trust team leader for Wirral Met, Darren has helped develop the club and its educational activities throughout his time at Shaftes.

Debbie Davies Administration

Debbie started volunteering at Shaftes in 1994, working in the evenings three days a week helping run the youth club. In 1998 Debbie was taken on as a part-time employee whilst continuing her active voluntary work. In 2003 Debbie became a full time employee working as the Shaftes Office Administrator and continues to support Shaftes Youth Club and in its other activities.

Nicola Palios Honorary President

Nicola is a co-owner and Vice-Chair of Tranmere Rovers Football Club. She has also spent the last 24 years working in law and international financial services, ultimately as the CEO of Mourant Group, a multi-national law firm and trust and fund administration company with 1,200 employees across 10 jurisdictions.

She now provides consultancy services primarily to the private equity industry on acquisitions and disposals within the financial services sector. She also holds a number of non-executive directorships.

John Jones Chairman

John is a Chartered Legal Executive and Licensed Conveyancer and is currently Compliance Director of Total Conveyancing Services, based in Cheshire. He divides his time between his legal and professional roles, delivering training to staff and lecturing.

He has written many articles and legal guides for trade journals and a national magazine. John also sits as a professional member of both the governing Council for Licensed Conveyancers and the Appeals Panel Tribunal for Ilex Professional Standards.

John served as Deputy Chief Commandant of the Merseyside Police Special Constabulary in the 1990s and has four children and five grandchildren.

Paul Turner

Paul joined Shaftes Youth Club at 11 representing the club in different football leagues before retiring 10 years ago. Over 36 years, Paul has developed a strong bond with the club and the idea of establishing a past members society, forming Shaftes 1886 in 2014 and is the current Chair. He joined the Council nine years ago.

Paul is a qualified Quantity Surveyor and has developed his professional skills to operate at Director level for many organisations and is Managing Director of Carillion Contract Services. Paul is now in private practice and offers commercial and legal advice within the property and construction industry

Paul is married with 2 children and lives locally. He splits his time between his family and his avid participation in golf, squash and as a football fan.

Mike Fairclough

Mike is a retired consulting actuary who has been a trustee since 2002. His business career involved advising many major UK companies on their pension arrangements and managing the Liverpool and Manchester offices of his firm which employed some 200 people. He retired in 2001 and then took on several part time roles one of which was to support the Shaftesbury Youth Club. Mike is married with two daughters and five grandchildren.

Barry Eaton

Barry started his professional career as a Civil Engineer but later changed careers and moved into transport planning. He has taken a specific interest in the provisions for disabled people and for 8 years has been part of a group advising the Minister of Transport on disability issues. Barry and his family have always been active in sport and firmly believe the important role it can play in a fit and healthy lifestyle.

David Price

David was born and bred in Rock Ferry, literally ‘down the road’ from the youth club. He attended Wirral Grammar for his secondary education after which he attended Bradford University to train as an Optometrist.

After training with a large national firm he joined his local family business of Pharmacies and Optometrists where he still works until the present day. He was appointed to the local Bench as a Magistrate in 1976 serving most of that time in family court.

His hobbies have been centred mainly around community service organisations, Round Table, Rotary Club and the Princes Trust. In his spare time he enjoys playing golf, 'very badly', mainly for the company of his fellow golfers and a walk in the pleasant countryside.
